Restraint As Authorship

After completing a PhD in brain cancer research, Katrina Kan entered fashion questioning how creative work could hold meaning beyond measurable impact. Restraint as Authorship responds by stripping the garment back to material, process and labour. Each piece begins as one square of undyed silk organza, folded through a strict system and constructed entirely by hand. Rejecting machinery, conventional pattern blocks and decorative excess, the collection asks what remains when visual noise is removed. The result is a quiet, disciplined body of work where authorship is found in restraint, and meaning is earned through process.
