Lapin
Ribbons
Combining responsibly sourced furs with beautiful textiles, each handcrafted Lapin coat speaks to designer/maker Jane Avery’s love of couture and the creation of heirlooms. Lapin occupies a niche, offering bespoke service and the time-honoured craft of the furrier to those who appreciate the beauty, longevity and sustainability of fur.
Sustainability
My mantra for Lapin is to work with what I have around me, not withstanding the occasional indulgence for the sake of pure beauty. When Mooneys Furs of Dunedin went into retirement, as their apprentice I inherited furs left over from a business of many years. Along with the furs of New Zealand wild rabbits and possums (a by-product of pest eradication), vintage fur remnants salvaged from my work as a furrier/coat-maker, and treasured vintage fabric finds, I generally have enough to be going on in a so-called sustainable way.
Diversity
“Midnight Mantra” is a coat fit for a Queen. With its 1920s golden gown, a statuesque woman is the muse.
“Gabriella” is a flared duster-style oilskin with removable ribbon detailing, made for a petite yet strong and enterprising feminine character.
“Noctua” is black tailoring with striking ribbon cuffs. The buttonholes allow left and right closure. So, wear it your way.
“Illumine” is glamorous and roomy for a plus-size wearer, because no matter the size, a swing coat is flattering.
“Massimo” translates as biggest and greatest, yet this long, strong shorn possum fur coat is all-embracing to suit a transgender persuasion.
