factory of ideas and experiments
Founded in 1989 by Dame Denise L'Estrange-Corbet and Francis Hooper MNZM, WORLD is New Zealand's most celebrated avant-garde fashion brand.
Their designs have been shown worldwide, and they are known for their contemporary and ground-breaking design and innovation. They are a brand of firsts and were among the first NZ labels invited to show internationally at official fashion weeks in London, Sydney, Hong Kong, Melbourne, Singapore, Paris, Wellington, and Auckland.
WORLD's philosophy has always been about design and quality, and their collections sit in the Auckland Museum, Te Papa, Wellington; National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne, and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney.
WORLD was awarded the honour of being featured in the inaugural four-month retrospective exhibition at the Auckland Memorial Museum. This dedicated 15-year retrospective was opened in 2005 by the then Prime Minister, Helen Clark.
Today, Benny Castles is widely recognised as the face of WORLD and serves as a judge for the iD Dunedin International Emerging Designer Awards.
